After seeing Where the Wild Things Are this past weekend, I realized two extremely important things.
1) I have found my Halloween costume. As I write this I am bleaching a giant women’s pink onesie (thank you once again Target!) hoping to turn into the wild king Max. I usually tend to stray from the sexy (inset random animal/person/inanimate object here) type of costume. Maybe after my creation is complete I’ll dedicate a “how to” post to it!
2)That I have become recently obsessed with movie soundtracks. My favorite movies are ones that make the soundtrack like a secondary character, carrying the movie from scene to scene.

Karen O (one of my favorite female artists of our time, but more on that later) does a fantastic job of creating the soundtrack to the movie. She incorporates a chorus of kids to match the adventurous and care-free feel of the movie. It kind of reminds me of the type of music that my teachers would play in kindergarten where we would all sing along and dance. “All Is Love” is super cute and you find yourself spelling out loud with the song. I definitely recommend getting soundtrack as well as seeing the movie. (Actually MAKING the monsters instead of CGIing everything kudos Spike Jonze!)
Another movie that I loved with a soundtrack I loved as well was (500) Days of Summer. I’m a huge fan of Marc Webb, who directed the movie, and thought he did a marvelous job of making music a central part of the story. I’m a huge fan of The Smiths and was happy that people were starting to talk about them (besides all of the emo bands that tend to quote them as a major influence). How could you not fall in love with Joseph Gordon-Levitts character after the dance sequence to Hall & Oates “You Make My Dreams”? Go wikipedia Marc Webb right now and watch some of the music videos he’s directed…awesome right?
A movie that I have no intention what so ever of seeing, but dug the soundtrack was Jennifer’s Body. Despite being produced by Fueled by Ramen and therefore including pop/emo staples Cobra Starship, Panic! at the Disco and All Time Low, there were some real gems in there. I love Little Boots and “New In Town” always puts me in the mood to dance. White Lies’ “Death” has an 80s vibe like Depeche Mode. My favorite song off the soundtrack was “Kiss With a Fist” by U.K. darling Florence and the Machine. “Kiss” is like Joan Jett meets Kate Nash.
